Cypress Fund is a social justice fund for the Carolinas.

Cypress Fund was created in 2019 by a group of organizers and donors rooted in North and South Carolina. We support social justice organizing in the Carolinas, with a focus on donor organizing and strategic investments in movement building. We are working towards a world in which everyone thrives; where communities have the resources they need to be fully self-determined and build their own solutions.

We do this through several program areas, including:

Grantmaking that is advised and led by social justice leaders.

Grassroots community organizers from across the Carolinas set the strategic direction for Cypress Fund. We believe that organizers are the experts on the issues on the ground, and therefore should have decision-making power over where funds are directed. Our Movement Committee advises our fund on strategic planning, long term goal setting, and our grantmaking docket.

Influencing other philanthropic partners to transform the way power is held over resources.

We hope to work with other philanthropic institutions, donors, and fundraisers to fund groups that are working on fighting for systemic change and building towards a more equitable society for all. We believe that philanthropic partners have a role to play in working towards wealth redistribution and repairing systemic harm from wealth inequality, white supremacy, and colonialism.
